Arin - Performer/Director/OwnerIn 2002, Arin embarked on her study of SWANA/MENAHT dance (commonly called belly dance), which has been her main passion since structured dance education throughout her formative years. While she has always enjoyed diversifying her repertoire with elements of other dance styles (including everything from partner dancing to breakdancing to flow arts), her primary focus has been these culturally-rich dance forms for the last couple decades.
Arin is American, but has devoted training to increase her skills by attending workshops with master and local teachers, and performs with a variety of props (zills/Sagat, sword, basket, veil, Isis wings, fan veil, candles, tambourine/Riqq, cane, whip, drums). She performs in both group and solo settings (Mosaic/Nova, bellygrams, restaurant/bar performances upon request) and also offers "Friends' Night In" mini classes for the perfect one-time experience. Arin is lucky enough to have trained with or taken workshops from teachers who’ve spent years developing skills from individuals like Aziza, Rachel Brice, Jamila Salimpour, Bert Balladine, Bal Anat troupe, Sanjukta Bannerjee and many others. In this manner, she's been able to learn a variety of styles and doesn't restrict herself to just one. She always looks forward to new workshops and increasing her skillset, as it's really important to continue learning as she is an ambassador for stylings/cultures she is teaching. She values teaching history and encourages her students to also do their own study so as best to respect the SWANA/MENAHT cultures. |
