Iorra - Owner, instructor, performer
Iorra started studying SWANA/MENAHT dance in 2002 (often called belly dance), with previous formalized dance training since the age of five. As she grew older, she branched out into many different styles of dance, picking up elements of everything from partner dancing to breakdancing to aerial silks to flow arts. While her primary focus is dance, she enjoys exploring different hobbies to help elevate performances to the next level.
Iorra is American, but has devoted training to increase her skills by attending workshops with master and local teachers, and performs with a variety of props (zills/Sagat, sword, basket, veil, Isis wings, fan veil, candles, tambourine, cane, whip, drums). She performs in both group and solo settings (Mosaic, bellygrams, restaurant/bar performances upon request) and also offers "Friends' Night In" mini classes for the perfect one-time experience.
Iorra is lucky enough to have trained with or taken workshops from teachers who’ve spent years developing skills from individuals like Aziza, Rachel Brice, Jamila Salimpour, Bert Balladine, Bal Anat troupe, Sanjukta Bannerjee and many others. In this manner, she's been able to learn a variety of styles and doesn't restrict herself to just one. She always looks forward to new workshops and increasing her skillset, as it's really important to continue learning as she is a guest in the cultures she is teaching. She values teaching history and encourages her students to also do their own study so as best to respect the SWANA/MENAHT cultures.
